A murine monoclonal antibody, Mab 7, recognizes a human membrane protein which is expressed on peripheral blood lymphocytes, on chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells and on the cell lines BALL, NALL, JM and K562, but not on MOLT4, normal human fibroblasts, or mature erythrocytes.This protein has a mol. weight of 90,000 and its expression on the surface of mouse/human B cell hybrids is correlated to the presence of human chromosome 3.In these hybrids, the antigen expression is also correlated to the expression of the human transferrin receptor, which is known to be coded for by human chromosome 3.The antibody was successfully used to sort mouse human cell hybrids into populations pos. or neg. for human chromosome 3 with the fluorescence activated cell sorter.By these criteria, the gene (MF15) for the membrane protein recognized by Mab 7 is assigned to human chromosome 3.
