In the paper the methodol. and the software established to evaluate future air pollutant emissions in air qualities management plans are reported.Preliminary a general frame for air quality management planning is introduced and the general concepts of emissions inventores are briefly resumed.The methodol. for emissions projections is then discussed and the "driver" and "scenario" concepts are defined.The PREM system, a software model for emissions projections and to evaluate emissions control measures, is presented.Finally a lot of examples from Italy regional case study are discussed.

The forecast-proposal phase of the air quality plan for the province of Trento, Italy, includes the following: project pollutant emissions for no remedial action, estimate air quality by diffusion modeling no intervention, define air quality objectives, define strategies and scenarios for emissions reduction, forecast emissions for different scenarios, estimate air quality by diffusion modeling of different scenarios, define priorities, timescale, and responsibility for application of the plan, and develop a strategy for informing the public.The pollutants considered are NO_x, CO, total particulates, O₃, benzene, and SO_x.

In this paper the methodol. for estimation of emissions from ships, realized within the MEET Project (Methodologies for Estimating Emissions from Transport), is described.In particular, there are described a synthetic methodol. to estimate consumption and emissions from known or easily available statistics on ship traffic and a detailed methodol., with the use of an organic fuel consumption data base, on a ship-by-ship basis, and the use of appropriate emission factors.
