Deterioration of LIX64N supported liquid membrane during copper extraction.

The deterioration of supported liquid LIX64N membrane for Cu extraction is caused by at ≥2 reasons, such as wash-out and contamination by some unknown substances dissolved from rubber and/or soft polyvinyl chloride into the feed.

Development of a long-life supported liquid membrane.

To prevent the deterioration of a supported liquid membrane (SLM), which is caused by wash-out of extractant from the SLM, it is proposed to use a Teflon porous plane film laminated with nonwoven polypropylene fibers as the support.The capillarity of the laminated polypropylene layer is important in supplying membrane liquid to the SLM.Several extractants, having different solubilities in water, were tested for long-term operation.A long-life SLM can be realized with this method.
