Introduction

An autosomal dominant form of ichthyosis characterized by generalized reddening of the skin (ERYTHEMA) and widespread blistering. The disease shows similar, but somewhat milder, clinical and histopathological findings to those in HYPERKERATOSIS, EPIDERMOLYTIC and is associated with the gene that encodes KERATIN-2A.

Efficacy of Tegaserod in Relieving the Symptoms of Female Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Excluding Those With Predominant Diarrhea IBS

Recent literature has demonstrated that the group of IBS sufferers who experience mixed bowel habits may be more similar to IBS-C patients than IBS-D patients. This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of tegaserod 6 mg b.i.d. in women with IBS and mixed bowel habits, excluding those with predominant diarrhea.

Enhancing Anode-Free Battery Performance with Self-Healing Single-Ion Conducting PAMPS-co-PBA Copolymer Interfaces

The design of anode-free batteries presents an attractive approach to the lithium metal battery. However, challenges such as uneven plating of lithium and poor Coulombic efficiency limit their commercially viable applications. In response to these challenges, this study introduces poly{(2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid)-co-(butyl acrylate)} (PAMPS-co-PBA), an artificial interface engineered to enhance the cyclic stability of batteries by fortifying the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and enabling self-healing and single-ion conductivity. Synthesis outcomes, validated by FTIR and ¹H NMR spectra, demonstrate successful production of PAMPS-co-PBA. Experimental results, including analyses of surface morphology, tensile strength, and Li plating/stripping tests, demonstrate the effectiveness of PAMPS-co-PBA in preventing dendrite formation and achieving >99% Coulombic efficiency. SEM analysis reveals better surface morphology and minimal lithium deposits for PAMPS-co-PBA compared with bare copper and other alternative interfaces. XPS analysis confirms the self-healing and single-ion conducting attributes of PAMPS-co-PBA postcycling. Density functional theory calculations elucidates the interface's behavior, confirming a pathway for Li-ion movement facilitated by the sulfonic acid group. Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations highlight the potential for SEI formation, shedding light on the influence of LiTFSI on interface protection. Anode-free full cell testing demonstrates PAMPS-co-PBA enhancement in stability over bare copper, with 1.6 times capacity retention over 50 cycles, primarily attributed to self-healing and dendrite suppression. Nonetheless, observed capacity fading after prolonged cycling suggests the optimization of Li salt choice. Overall, PAMPS-co-PBA presents a promising solution for enhancing battery performance through advanced interface engineering.

Lateral Calcaneal Artery Perforator/Propeller Flap in the Reconstruction of Posterior Heel Soft Tissue Defects

Abstract Introduction Posterior heel soft tissue defects with/without tendoachilles injury are difficult to reconstruct because of bony prominence, limited expendable local soft tissues, and significant donor site morbidity. In this study, we evaluate the lateral calcaneal artery (LCA) perforator/propeller flap for posterior heel soft tissue defect reconstruction. Materials and Methods A preliminary cadaveric study was done on 22 specimens to study the course of the LCA and its perforators. The knowledge gleaned from the cadaveric study was applied in our clinical study. The clinical study was conducted from January 2018 to May 2023 in 13 patients (10 males and 3 females) with posterior heel defects. The primary movement of the perforator flaps were either V-Y advancement (n = 10) or propeller (n = 3). Results All the flaps settled well except for superficial epidermolysis in one patient (7.69%) which healed conservatively. The average follow-up period was 14.53 months. Postoperatively, all patients had normal gait and normal range of movements. The LCA with the maximum number of perforators in the retrofibular/retromalleolar segment and the islanded flaps based on these perforators provided the excellent coverage for tendoachilles insertion defects and posterior heel defects facilitating excellent shoeability in all cases. Conclusion The study concludes that the LCA perforator/propeller flap may be a reliable cover for the posterior heel defects with good color, texture, thickness, and contour match rendering a shoeable stable foot.

Regulating Electric Double Layer via Self‐Assembled Monolayer for Stable Solid/Electrolyte Interphase on Mg Metal Anode

AbstractModulating the cationic solvation structure with high donor‐number (DN) additive is an effective strategy to construct a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) on the Mg anode, which necessitates meticulous consideration of electrolyte chemistry and substantial quantities of additives. Notably, the electric double layer (EDL) adjacent to anode is pivotal role in SEI formation yet remains understudied. In this study, we propose a novel self‐assembled monolayer (SAM) strategy by utilizing (trifluoromethyl)trimethylsilane (TFTMS, only 2 vol %, 1.4 mol %, 0.135 mol L−1), a low DN but strong Mg metal absorbability through electron‐withdrawing groups(−CF3), to modulate the complex structure of the Helmholtz absorption plane. Through dipole‐dipole interaction between the electronegative fluorine (−CF3 of TFTMS) and electropositive hydrogen (−CH3/−CH2 of solvents), TFTMS weakens solvent‐Mg2+ coordination and thus enhances anion‐Mg2+ interaction, inducing a stable and dense SEI with superior electronic insulation to realize horizontal Mg plating/stripping. Consequently, the designed electrolytes enable the symmetric cells to cycle stable for up to 1000 hours and reversible Mg plating/stripping under 5 mA cm−2, they show favorable compatibility with various cathodes. More importantly, the SAM strategy has good generality in other electrolyte systems, demonstrating a simple and effective route to promote the practical application of rechargeable magnesium battery.
