Introduction

A disorder of the skin, the oral mucosa, and the gingiva, that usually presents as a solitary polypoid capillary hemangioma often resulting from trauma. It is manifested as an inflammatory response with similar characteristics to those of a granuloma.

A Comparative Randomized Clinical Study on the Recurrence Rate of Gingival Pyogenic Granuloma Treated with Sclerotherapy Versus Diode Laser Therapy.

Pyogenic granuloma is a common tumor-like growth of the oral cavity considered to be non-neoplastic in nature. They usually present as a reactive lesion occur in response to chronic and recurring tissue injury, in which capillaries are very prominent commonly seen arising from interdental gingiva. Pyogenic granuloma may occur in all ages, with a peak age of incidence in the second decade of life, more common in young adult females, possibly because of vascular effects of female hormones.

Evaluation of Cryotherapy in Granuloma Pyogenicum by Means of Cryopen Compared to Surgical Removal

Surgical excision needs general anesthesia and might have complications due to anesthesia. Cryotherapy can be used in an outpatient setting and doesn't need general anesthesia.
This study will evaluate if cryotherapy works in granuloma pyogenicum with the advancement of no general anesthesia.

Periorbital Intravenous Lobular Pyogenic Granulomas: A Case Report and Literature Review of This Peculiar Pathology

Intravenous lobular pyogenic granuloma (ILPG) is a seldom-documented pathology in oculoplastic and orbital literature. This study aims to elucidate the clinical presentation and histopathologic findings surrounding periorbital ILPG through a case presentation and literature review. We describe a 42-year-old male with a palpable periorbital subcutaneous nodule that was subsequently diagnosed as ILPG on immunohistochemistry. A literature review was performed by searching articles in the PubMed/MEDLINE database using the keywords “periorbital intravenous lobular pyogenic granuloma,” “periorbital intravenous pyogenic granuloma,” or “periorbital intravenous capillary hemangioma.” The literature review identified 6 patients presenting with similar subcutaneous nodules that were diagnosed as periorbital ILPGs. All patients, including the one in this study, were treated with local excision. Only 1 patient (1/7; 14.3%) noted pain while 5 experienced swelling or fluctuance (5/7; 71.4%). In patients with documented pathology reports, all ILPGs involved the angular vein (6/6; 100%). Of the 3 patients who had follow-ups at 2 to 7 years postexcision, none had recurrence. Histopathologic findings demonstrate an intravascular lobular tumor composed of capillaries with endothelial cells and pericytes. Marked reactivity to anti-Wilms tumor type 1 (WT-1) and anti-Smooth muscle actin was noted in the capillary structure. ILPG can be included on the differential for well-circumscribed, subcutaneous periocular masses. While the etiology of periorbital ILPG is unknown, most cases are managed with surgical excision, and recurrence appears to be uncommon. In sharing these cases and histopathologic underpinnings of periorbital ILPG, we endeavor to describe this peculiar pathology for oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeons.

Metastatic conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma presenting as infectious sclerokeratouveitis

PurposeWe describe a case of metastatic conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) presenting as an infectious sclerokeratouveitis in a patient with autoimmune disease.ObservationsA 63-year-old Caucasian female presented to the cornea service with a raised perilimbal scleral infiltrate, hypopyon, and corneal perforation concerning for infectious necrotizing sclerokeratoveitis. She had an ocular history of a recurrent "pyogenic granuloma" and her medical history was notable for well-controlled systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. Scleral debridement and repair with a corneal patch graft was performed. Bacterial cultures grew 4+ Proteus mirabilis sensitive to tobramycin. One month later, she developed bulky painless scleral lesions with leukoplakic features. A scleral biopsy revealed squamous cell carcinoma. Imaging suggested ciliary body and medial rectus infiltration without perineural invasion. Right anterior exenteration was performed as immunotherapy was felt to be unlikely to achieve success in light of her autoimmune conditions. Six months later, she developed a palpable right parotid mass with biopsy confirming metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. She underwent a right parotidectomy and is now undergoing consolidative radiotherapy.Conclusions and ImportanceOcular surface neoplasia can present as a necrotizing sclerokeratouveitis, contributed by both the tumor and an atypical infectious process. Malignancy with superinfection should be in the differential diagnosis of recurrent ocular surface inflammation.

Benign eyelid lesions and its histopathological picture: A case-series

ABSTRACTOur prospective case series evaluates the clinical feature, histopathological picture, and treatment of benign eyelid lesions in a tertiary referral setting. Participants were first nine patients referred to the author with unilateral eyelid swelling. Main outcome measures were clinical features, histopathological picture, and response to surgical intervention. Benign eyelid lesions in our case series were epidermal inclusion cyst, giant conjunctival inclusion cyst, epidermoid cyst, dermoid cyst, intradermal nevus, dermal nevus, apocrine hidrocystoma, capillary hemangioma, and lobular capillary hemangioma. The histopathological diagnosis of eight lesions were consistent with their respective clinical diagnosis, while one lesion was misdiagnosed. Surgical excision was done in all cases. One case underwent revision surgery for complication. This series highlights the importance of achieving higher diagnostic accuracy with thorough knowledge of clinical features and subsequent confirmation with histopathological analysis.
