Data from the QUASAR long-term extension study demonstrate more than 70% of patients were in clinical remission and more than 40% of patients were in endoscopic remission at Week 92 SAN DIEGO, Calif., May 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) today announced new data from the TREMFYA® (guselkumab) Phase 3 QUASAR long-term extension (LTE) study in adults with moderately-to-severely active ulcerative colitis (UC). These data are among 24 abstracts highlighting the Company's research being presented at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2025. Data from the QUASAR LTE study demonstrate patients treated with TREMFYA® sustained clinical and endoscopic efficacy at Week 92: a, 1 72% of patients were in clinical remissionb with 99% of those patients remaining corticosteroid free for 8 or more weeks through Week 92. 43% of patients were in endoscopic remission.c Among patients achieving endoscopic improvementd at Week 44, 84% maintained endoscopic improvement through Week 92. The ASTRO Week 24 data build on the Week 12 SC induction data that showed statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements compared to placebo across all clinical and endoscopic measures consistent with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved intravenous (IV) induction regimen evaluated in this population, in the Phase 3 QUASAR study.1,2 TREMFYA® is the first and only IL-23 inhibitor to demonstrate robust results with a fully SC regimen. The White House’s budget request proposes nearly $18 billion in cuts to NIH spending, and more than $3.5 billion slashed at the CDC. And the changes would include major consolidation at both agencies. Elsewhere in the proposed budget, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would snag $500 million to tackle some of the Make America Healthy Again initiatives that are core to his goals for the agency. The budget request, released Friday , proposes that the NIH fuse into five new national institutes, down from 21. Those institutes would be Body Systems Research, Neuroscience and Brain Research, General Medical Sciences, Disability Related Research, and Behavioral Health. A senior White House official cited high indirect costs as part of the rationale for the overhaul. “We believe that places like NIH, where we are spending more on indirect costs for parking lots and administrative offices than Bill Gates would pay when he gives to a university, is fundamentally wasteful,” the official told reporters on a media call. They also said that the proposed NIH cuts stem in part from prior grants provided to EcoHealth Alliance, which in turn gave subawards to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Some federal agencies and conservative lawmakers point to the Wuhan facility as the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic, alleging the spread of the virus was the result of a lab leak as opposed to spillover from a wet market in the city. At the CDC, “the Budget proposes consolidating funding for Infectious Disease and Opioids, Viral Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and Tuberculosis programs into one grant program funded at $300 million.” The White House official said “half of their organization sits down in Atlanta and just writes papers as opposed to fighting infectious diseases.” “We believe that these agencies, without reductions in budget, will not be able to be reformed to be able to serve the interests of the American people,” the official added. The $500 million allocated for the Make America Healthy Again “initiative” is intended to build on President Donald Trump’s executive order creating the MAHA Commission that Kennedy chairs, according to a description of the funding. The description says that the money “would allow the Secretary to tackle nutrition, physical activity, healthy lifestyles, over-reliance on medication and treatments, the effects of new technological habits, environmental impacts, and food and drug quality and safety across HHS.” A spokesperson for the White House Office of Management and Budget did not immediately respond to questions about where the money would be earmarked specifically, and if it would be given to the commission to allot. The Senate HELP committee, chaired by Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), announced Friday that Kennedy would discuss the HHS budget at a May 14 hearing. The announcement says it’s the first time that an HHS secretary will testify on the president’s budget request in at least two decades.
