Gallic acid is a triphenolic compound with a low mol. weight, exhibiting anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-neoplastic activity.This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of a new cocrystal mol. salt of gallic acid and picolinic acid along with their computational studies and biol. activity.The compound was analyzed using FTIR spectroscopy and DSC and its crystal structure was confirmed through SCXRD.The asym. unit of GAPA cocrystal salt hydrate, represented by the formula (C₇H₅O₅)-(C₆H₅NO₂)+(H₂O), is composed of a single gallic acid mol., a single picolinic acid mol., and one mol. of water.Structural anal. indicates a strong hydrogen bonding network involving water mols., leading to diverse supramol. structures.Intermol. interactions responsible for crystal packing were examined through Hirshfeld surface anal. (HS anal.).Calculations utilizing DFT were conducted to precisely determine the optimized geometry of the mol. salt.This optimization was effectively achieved using the 6-311+G (d, p) basis set in the gas phase.

Development of a regression equation to estimate a quantifiable basic compound by the reduction prepeak measurement of quinone derived from surplus acid

We have previously reported the electrochemical analysis that is coupled with the concept of acid-base back titration and the electrochemical sensing for acids based on the reduction of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzoquinone (DBBQ) for determining inorganic basic compounds and amino acids. The purpose of this study is to develop a regression equation to estimate quantifiable basic compounds by this electrochemical analysis. Through the analysis of 23 compounds with various basic and acidic groups, we found that there are some quantifiable and non-quantifiable basic compounds. For example, 4-aminophenol is quantifiable because the reduction prepeak current height of DBBQ derived from surplus HCl after neutralization with 4-aminophenol was linearly decreased with increasing 4-aminophenol concentration (r² = 0.988). In contrast, 4-aminobenzoic acid is non-quantifiable because the above voltammetric behaviors were not observed. From the relationships between the predicted pK_b and pK_a values of the quantifiable and non-quantifiable compounds, we found that a quantifiable basic compound without an acidic group satisfies pK_b < 12, and a quantifiable basic compound with an acidic group satisfies the following equation: pK_b < -0.0399(pK_a)² + 1.25pK_a + 2.12. These findings are useful to predict interfering substances in analyses of real samples with complicated matrixes and to estimate quantifiable basic compounds by this electrochemical analysis.

A near-infrared “turn-on” fluorescent probe for selective detection of copper(II) ions in aqueous media and its application in cell imaging

Copper (II) is considered the third most essential trace element for life, following iron and zinc, and plays a vital role in various physiological and pathological processes. The fluorescent probe has become an important method for the detection of heavy metal ions. This investigation involved the development and synthesis of a near-infrared "turn-on" fluorescent probe, DCX-Cu, with a significant Stokes shift (156 nm), specifically to identify Cu²⁺ compared other ions. A detection limit (LOD) of 19.47 nM for Cu²⁺ was demonstrated by probe DCX-Cu. A strong linear correlation was observed between the fluorescence intensities measured at 746 nm and the concentrations of Cu²⁺. Furthermore, the current probe successfully visualized Cu²⁺ in water samples and HepG2 cells.
