Ten oligostilbenoids namely piceid (1), (-)-ε-viniferin (2), viniferifuran (3), hemsleyanol A (4), (-)-ampelopsin F (5), vaticanol A (6), vaticanol E (7), pauciflorol B (8), vaticanol G (9) and vaticanol B (10) were isolated from the wood and the stem bark of Vatica lowii.The elucidation of the isolated compounds was executed using 1D and 2D NMR, UV, IR, MS, optical rotation and comparison with the literature data.The chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds was also discussed.

An insight into the mechanistic role of (-)-Ampelopsin F from Vatica chinensis L. in inducing insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells

Resveratrol oligomers, ranging from dimers to octamers, are formed through regioselective synthesis involving the phenoxy radical coupling of resveratrol building blocks, exhibiting remarkable therapeutic potential, including antidiabetic properties. In this study, we elucidate the mechanistic insights into the insulin secretion potential of a resveratrol dimer, (-)-Ampelopsin F (AmF), isolated from the acetone extract of Vatica chinensis L. stem bark in Pancreatic Beta-TC-6 cell lines. The AmF (50 µM) treated cells exhibited a 3.5-fold increase in insulin secretion potential as compared to unstimulated cells, which was achieved through the enhancement of mitochondrial membrane hyperpolarization, elevation of intracellular calcium concentration, and upregulation of GLUT2 and glucokinase expression in pancreatic Beta-TC-6 cell lines. Furthermore, AmF effectively inhibited the activity of DPP4, showcasing a 2.5-fold decrease compared to the control and a significant 6.5-fold reduction compared to the positive control. These findings emphasize AmF as a potential lead for the management of diabetes mellitus and point to its possible application in the next therapeutic initiatives.

Resveratrol oligomers from roots of Ampelocissus martini Planch.

Phytochem. investigation of roots of Ampelocissus martini Planch.(Vitaceae family) led to the isolation of five resveratrol oligomers comprising (-)-ampelopsin F (1), (+)-hopeaphenol (2), (-)-α-viniferin (3), (-)-wilsonol A (4) and (-)-stenophyllol B (5).The structure elucidation was performed using their spectroscopic data as well as comparison with those of literature data.All the isolated compounds were submitted to anti-HIV-1 activities employing the syncytium inhibition assay, using the ^ΔTat/RevMC99 virus and 1A2 cell line system, and the reverse transcriptase (RT) assay.The results revealed that the enzymic inhibition of tested compounds except compound 1 exhibited the potential inhibition in anti-HIV 1-RT assay with IC₅₀ in the range of 1.68-5.85μM better than the pos. control, navirapin (IC₅₀ at 7.77μM).Based on the results, their activities displayed the RT enzymic inhibition better than the pos. control.In addition, the chem. isolation of A. martini was studied for the first time herein.All known secondary metabolites except compound 2 were firstly reported from Ampelocissus genus.Furthermore, the chemotaxonomic significance of the isolates was discussed.
