eXeX uses Apple Vision Pro to manage reverse total shoulder arthroplasty

eXeX announced that it successfully used the Apple Vision Pro system to organize and manage a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. The company said it was the first-ever use of Apple’s spatial computing headset in a procedure of this kind. It’s yet another medtech application of Apple’s VR headset, with Karl Storz, Siemens Healthineers and Stryker recently unveiling surgical planning technology using the Apple product. Dr. G. Russell Huffman of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute performed the procedure at AdventHealth Surgery Center Innovation Tower in Orlando, Florida. The eXeX technology “played a crucial role in the surgery,” the company said in a news release. The company said it demonstrated the adaptability and potential of spatial computing applications in complex surgical environments. “The surgery team at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and AdventHealth Surgery Center Innovation Tower have committed themselves to the highest level of surgical innovation and performance on behalf of their patients,” said eXeX CEO Dr. Robert Masson. eXeX highlighted a unique challenge in the form of having to work within the constraints of the Stryker personal protection system. The company said this previously limited the use of mixed reality headsets in sterile surgical settings. However, with Apple Vision Pro, the company reported seamless integration under the protective hood. This enabled the scrub technician to utilize the eXeX software without any problems. “This achievement is not just a milestone for eXeX but a leap forward for the entire medical industry,” Huffman said. “Our successful use of the AppleVision Pro and the eXeX software in such a complex environment underscores our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in surgical procedures and patient care.”
