(Credit: Business Wire) US-based Heidelberg Engineering has received the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its all-in-one anterior segment diagnostics platform, ANTERION platform. The company has designed the ANTERION platform to streamline practice workflow. The upgradeable platform combines biometry, IOL power calculation with corneal topography and tomography, anterior chamber metrics, and imaging to help transform the daily clinical routine. According to Heidelberg, ANTERION has additional proprietary features like patented eye tracking and composite imaging technologies that help deliver Heidelberg image quality. This allows professionals in the eye care industry to perform anterior segment examinations and obtain key measurements through swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT) images that support clinical decision-making and boost diagnostic confidence, the ophthalmic imaging company said. Heidelberg Engineering managing director Arianna Vargas said: “Building upon our previous CE-marking, we are thrilled that the ANTERION platform is now available to eye care providers across the US. “We believe this device complements our current portfolio of products and arms anterior segment-focused practices with the comprehensive data needed to support diagnostic decisions that ultimately improve patient care.” The Imaging App, which received the FDA approval in November 2021, is central to the ANTERION platform. The anterior segment is the centre of the Imaging App’s visualisation, which produces revealing OCT pictures that help eye professionals diagnose and treat anterior segment changes. ANTERION’s functionality is now expanded with the recently FDA-cleared apps that were created to address a range of therapeutic demands. The list includes the Cataract App which combines key measurements for cataract surgery planning, including toric IOL calculators and integrated monofocal. The Cornea App offers a complete range of corneal measures to measure each patient’s unique corneal geometry. These diagnostic insights can be used to guide surgical planning and refractive technique evaluation. Lastly, the Metrics App has swept-source OCT images with the anterior chamber in a radial view. It enables predefined angle parameter calculations and free-hand measurements.
