A worker has died after an explosion at Seqens’ active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing facility in Newburyport, MA, on Thursday.
The explosion in Newburyport, around 35 miles north of Boston, was reported at 12:45 a.m. EST on Thursday, according to the Newburyport Fire Department.
Five workers were inside the building at the time of the explosion. Four were taken to a local hospital and eventually released, and one worker was initially reported missing. The body of the missing worker was
recovered
at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. There was major structural damage to the building that prevented firefighters and rescue crews from entering to begin a search.
