Genentech long-termer Jane Grogan named as Biogen's new research head

Executive Change
Biogen on Wednesday named Jane Grogan as the company's head of research, effective October 2, filling a role that has been without a permanent successor since the retirement of Alfred Sandrock at the end of 2021. Grogan most recently served as chief scientific officer at Graphite Bio, having held the same position at ArsenalBio, preceded by 15 years at Roche's Genentech unit in senior roles across immunology and immuno-oncology.
"Grogan is a pioneering scientist whose groundbreaking discoveries at Genentech helped pave the way for development of targeted autoimmune and oncology therapies," remarked Biogen CEO Christopher Viehbacher.
Following Sandrock's departure as head of R&D, Biogen decided to split the position into two roles, with Priya Singhal taking over as head of development. Viehbacher said that Grogan and Singhal "will determine the company's portfolio strategy with the aim of creating value and making decisions aligned with our scientific expertise and translational capabilities."
