An improved method for determining Fe in Ti alloys by spectrophotometry with 1,10-phenanthroline was presented to overcome the disadvantage of conventional method (setting the chromogenic solution over night for eliminating the interference of >4 mg of V).A sample is dissolved rapidly with HF solution and complexed with saturated H3BO3, and Fe in the sample solution is determined by 1,10-phenanthroline spectrophotometry with HOAc-NH4Ac as buffer and ternary organic ammonium salts (ammonium tartrate, ammonium citrate, and ammonium oxalate) as masking agents. The method shortened determination time and showed satisfactory results.
