To assay the biological activity of recombinant human platelet factor 4 (rhPF4).

The bioactivity of rhPF4 was assayed in vitro and in vivo in comparison with native PF4 by using murine and human megakaryocyte culture systems.

rhPF4, like native PF4, had an inhibitory activity on megakaryocytopoiesis in vitro and in vivo in mice. The inhibitory activity could be neutralized by heparin. rhPF4 also had an inhibitory activity on human megakaryocytic leukemia cell line (Meg-01).

rhPF4 might be applied to clinical practice.
