Several unsuccessful routes to unsubstituted 7-(aminoalcohol)quinolines were investigated.A scheme of synthesis for 2,7-disubstituted quinolines was investigated and antimalarial activity was associated with 2-phenyl-7-carboxyquinoline.The synthesis of such compounds, with variants in the 2-position, was undertaken.Alternative routes for the conversion of 2-aryl-7-methyl- or 7-carboxyquinoline into 2-aryl-7-(aminoalcohol)quinoline derivatives are outlined.
