Overview

The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effect of different protein-enhancement strategies versus carbohydrate control on exercise-induced muscle damage in physically active older adults. The main question it aims to answer is:
What is the effect of three different protein-enhancement strategies (whey protein (WP), mixed plant-based protein (MPP), and use of protein-rich food products (PFP) on exercise-induced muscle damage in older adults compared to isocaloric carbohydrate control?
Participants will:
* Use a protein-enhancement strategy (WP, MPP or PFP) or carbohydrate control for a total of 5 weeks;
* Participate in a single walking bound (30/40/50 km) two weeks after the start of the study;
* Participate in a consecutive walking bound (4 days of 30/40/50 km) in the last week of the study period;
* Complete different questionnaires and give blood samples to test for muscle damage.

The fast growing desalination industry is facing two major challenges such as cost reduction and reduction in the environmental impact.The usage of fossil-based chems. (like most antiscalants) has a neg. influence on both challenges.Most often these chems. are not environmentally friendly and the cost for these chems. are increasing rapidly due to the rising prices of raw materials (e.g. crude oil and phosphate rock).Most of the currently available environmentally friendly scale inhibitors have some drawbacks related to cost and/or performance.Carboxymethyl inulin is an environmentally friendly antiscalant which has been proven to be cost-effective in RO processes and therefore, could have a pos. contribution to both of the above-mentioned challenges.

The best known inulin derivative being used as a threshold scale-inhibitor is carboxymethyl inulin (CMI) branded under the name Carboxyline CMI.CMI is an environmentally friendly antiscalant which proved to be cost-effective in reverse osmosis processes.CMI is a very effective antiscalant at low dosage levels and with a long induction time.Its usage did not lead to biofouling and the cleaning interval could be reduced from every 2-3 mo to less than once a year.All this resulted in substantially lower cleaning costs, lower energy consumption and less down time.After the full-scale trial period, the drinking-H₂O company decided to switch to CMI on all 4 stacks of the production plant and was running on CMI for several years.

Advances in sustainable machine dishwashing: synergistic cleaning effects between conventional and bio-based ingredients

For dishwashing detergents with low P content the synergism of conventional and bio-based ingredients is favorable.Four formulations were tested.For the green complexing agents carboxymethylinulin and sodium citrate a synergism with polyacrylates were found.In suitable combination, better results can be obtained with respect to the prevention of the drop and film forming.In the tests of the rinsing performance it was shown that performance enhancing components, such as complexing agents and polymers, are required to achieve comparable results to STPP-containing cleaning tabs.Phosphate-free detergents without these performance-enhancing ingredients didn't lead to any satisfactory result.Formulations based on CMI and citrate/carbonate contribute to the development of cost-relevant formulations.
