A process was developed for the purification of H₂SO₄ containing washing water contaminated with dissolved heavy metal ions and solid PbO₂ with regard to its recycling within battery productionThe solids separation is based on a combined process of membrane filtration and a standard filter press producing a solid-free filtrate and a dewatered residue from which Pb is recycled.For the cross-flow membrane filtration 2 in parallel operated ultrahigh mol. polyethylene membrane modules with an area of each 8 m² are applied.The heavy metal ions are separated by ion exchange while the acid is separated via electrodialysis and feed back to the acid mixing unit.
