A review.Hair serves as a repository for drugs and other substances delivered by the blood to the hair root. This chapter discusses some of the approaches concerning external contamination and cosmetic treatment of hair described by the relevant scientific literature and provides further new data from our own practice and our aim is to expand the possibilities and probabilities for interpretation of the results in such cases. In this chapter we reviewed the two main factors that affect the results of drugs detected in the hair-external contamination (including the implications of hair washing procedures) and the effect of cosmetics and dreadlocks. Our data shows that drug levels are still detected in the hair of regular users even after strong chem. cosmetic hair treatments which damage hair, such as hair dyes, bleaches, and perms.
