/ CompletedNot Applicable Prospective Randomized Double-Blind Placebo Controlled Study of Oral Pomella on the Microbiome and Skin Biophysical Properties
Pomegranate extract (Pomella) is well known for its antioxidant properties due to its phenolic compounds. It has also been shown to increase the amount of short chain fatty acid producing Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria genera. Short chain fatty acids are thought to have an anti-inflammatory effect on the sebaceous glands. Previous studies have concluded that pomegranate extract may act as a prebiotic in the body and subsequently increasing the gastrointestinal microbial diversity and by producing short chain fatty acids that may have systemic beneficial effects especially on the skin.
Therefore, the aim of this study is to assess how Pomella alters the gut microbiome and the blood level of short chain fatty acids in healthy subjects.
/ Active, not recruitingNot ApplicableIIT A Pilot 12 Month, Randomized, Controlled Trial of Curcumin in Kidney Transplant Recipients
The primary goal of this study is to investigate if curcumin is beneficial for kidney transplant recipients, a population with extensive baseline vascular dysfunction and cognitive impairment who have few treatment options. The possible mechanisms by which curcumin improves vascular function will be evaluated as well as whether curcumin improves cognitive function in these patients.
/ CompletedNot Applicable Randomized, Double-Blind Evaluation of Maple Leaf Extract (Maplifa) for Photoaging
Recent research has reported that the maple leaf extract exhibits anti-aging effects by inhibiting elastase activity, thereby preventing the breakdown of elastin and interfering with the formation of wrinkles. Red maple leaf extract contains phenolic compounds known as glucitol-core-containing gallotannins (GCGs) which help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and may decrease skin inflammation, dark spots and pigmentation. The objective of this study is to examine the effects of topical Maplifa on the cosmetic appearance of facial lines, redness and skin tone.
