Working temperatures of TPEs can be enhanced, leading to a new type of crosslinked hydrogenated styrenic block copolymers (HSBC).Derivatives of styrene, which allow chem. crosslinkage of the endblocks, should lead to an increase of tensile properties of the polystyrene, PS, domains at higher temperaturesChem. crosslinked styrene based endblocks do not loose their strength above glass transition point of PS.The working temperature shifts considerably to higher temperature and is only limited by the onset m.p. of PP.The production of such novel, chem. crosslinked HSBC (HSBC-V) can be done by dynamic vulcanization of chem. modified styrene endblocks in a twin screw extruder.
