Introduction

May regulate the synthesis and function of lysosomes and of highly specialized organelles, such as melanosomes and platelet dense granules (PubMed:17041891). Acts as a cargo adapter for the dynein-dynactin motor complex to mediate the transport of lysosomes from the cell periphery to the perinuclear region. Facilitates retrograde lysosomal trafficking by linking the motor complex to lysosomes, and perinuclear positioning of lysosomes is crucial for the delivery of endocytic cargos to lysosomes, for lysosome maturation and functioning (PubMed:25189619).

Boosting CO2 photoreduction over perovskite quantum dots decorated with dispersed ruthenium nanoparticles

High efficiency CO₂ conversion materials are ideal for solar to carbon fuel conversion. Halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are highly desirable as catalysts and have been extensively investigated in the field of CO₂ photoreduction. The major challenge lies in the severe charge recombination and the weak ability to activate CO₂. Herein, we have identified dispersed Ru nanoparticles anchored on CsPbBr₃ (CPB) QDs as prospective photocatalysts for CO₂ reduction at ambient pressure with light irradiation. The optimized 0.45 % CPB@Ru reduced CO₂ to CO at a rate of 28.12 μmol g^-1 h^-1 without any sacrificial agent and co-catalysts, about 4 times higher than that of the CPB QDs (7.03 μmol g^-1 h^-1). Experiments and DFT calculations reveal that the as-prepared CPB@Ru showed increased photogenerated charge separation, CO₂ adsorption/activation and lower energy barriers for the formation of *COOH intermediate, which are crucial for enhancing the photocatalytic CO₂ reduction activity. This work provides a convenient pathway for designing high-performance perovskite photocatalysts with high selectivity and high catalytic activity using metal nanoparticle loading technology.

Tandem Catalysis for Plastic Depolymerization: In Situ Hydrogen Generation via Methanol Aqueous Phase Reforming for Sustainable Polyethylene Hydrogenolysis

AbstractDepolymerizing plastic waste through hydrogen‐based processes, such as hydrogenolysis and hydrocracking, presents a promising solution for converting plastics into liquid fuels. However, conventional hydrogen production methods rely heavily on fossil fuels, exacerbating global warming. This study introduces a novel approach to plastic waste hydrogenolysis that utilizes in situ hydrogen generated via the aqueous phase reforming (APR) of methanol, a biomass‐derived chemical offering a more sustainable alternative. Our results show that a bimetallic Ru−Pt/TiO2 catalyst achieved high conversion (85.1 %) and selectivity (81.0 %) towards liquid fuels and lubricant oils in a tandem process combining polyethylene (PE) hydrogenolysis and methanol APR. By tuning the metal loading, we identified that Pt enhances hydrogen production through methanol APR, while Ru drives C−C bond cleavage, which is crucial for PE hydrogenolysis. Isotope labeling analysis confirmed that hydrogen generated from methanol APR is effectively utilized in the PE hydrogenolysis reaction. This method was also successfully applied to post‐consumer polyolefin waste, with selectivity toward valuable products ranging from 75.0 % to 88.9 %. This study highlights an innovative strategy to reduce reliance on fossil‐fuel‐derived hydrogen in plastic waste depolymerization, promoting both sustainability and environmental protection.

Uridine Embedded within DNA is Repaired by Uracil DNA Glycosylase via a Mechanism Distinct from That of Ribonuclease H2

Uridine (rU) and 2'-deoxyuridine (dU) are common DNA lesions. dU is repaired through a base excision repair (BER) pathway initiated by uracil DNA glycosylase (UDG), while rU is typically removed from DNA via ribonucleotide excision repair, mediated by RNase H2. In this study, we report that rU is also repaired through the UDG-mediated BER pathway. We found that UDG catalyzes the removal of uracil from rU embedded in DNA, but exhibits no activity toward rU in RNA. Biochemical and crystallographic analyses revealed that the 2'-OH group of rU is effectively accommodated by UDG and directly participates in catalyzing the hydrolysis of the N-glycosidic bond. The abasic site product generated upon removal of uracil from rU by UDG is further processed by downstream BER enzymes to restore undamaged DNA. Our findings suggest that UDG-initiated BER constitutes a previously unrecognized pathway for the repair of rU-specific ribonucleotides. Additionally, we developed a method for selectively quantifying rU content in DNA. Using this method, we determined that rU repair by UDG is not a major pathway in human cells. This discovery expands our understanding of the diverse biological functions of UDG, and inspires further investigation to determine the role of its rU-removal in cells.
