Introduction

An autonomic disorder characterized by excessive sweating of the forehead, upper lip, perioral region, or sternum subsequent to gustatory stimuli. The auriculotemporal syndrome features facial flushing or sweating limited to the distribution of the auriculotemporal nerve and may develop after trauma to the parotid gland, in association with PAROTID NEOPLASMS, or following their surgical removal. Assessment of the Rate of Oseointegration Surrounding Nano-coated Orthodontic Titanium Miniscrew

The current study was directed to evaluate rate of oseointegration surrounding nano-coated orthodontic titanium miniscrew.The current study will conduct on eighteen Egyptian males orthodontic patients for three months.
Study Groups:
A- Blank group: include six orthodontic patients, which have a surgical procedure to install two orthodontic titanium miniscrews in the two lateral parts of the maxilla , so this group will include 12 installed orthodontic titanium miniscrews.
B- Silver hydroxyapatite group: include six orthodontic patients, which have a surgical procedure to install two silver hydroxyapatite nano-coated orthodontic titanium miniscrews in the two lateral parts of the maxilla, so this group will include 12 installed silver hydroxyapatite nano-coated orthodontic titanium miniscrews.
C- Zinc oxide group: include six orthodontic patients, which have a surgical procedure to install two zinc oxide nano-coated orthodontic titanium miniscrews in the two lateral parts of the maxilla, so this group will include 12 installed zinc oxide nano-coated orthodontic titanium miniscrews.

Restoring form and function: The role of free dermal fat graft (FDFG) in post-parotidectomy reconstruction. A systematic review and meta-analysis of expected outcomes and patient satisfaction

PURPOSEThis study aims to assess the outcomes of free dermal fat graft (FDFG) reconstruction following parotidectomy, evaluating both clinical complications and patient satisfaction with the procedure.METHODSWe conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis according to PRISMA guidelines, searching MEDLINE (via PubMed), Scopus, and the Cochrane Library for studies reporting on FDFG outcomes post-parotidectomy. Eligible studies included single-arm studies with data on recipient and donor site complications as well as patient satisfaction. Pooled complication rates were analyzed using a random-effects model to account for study heterogeneity.RESULTSA total of 20 studies, representing 922 reconstructions in 919 patients, were included in the analysis. The overall rates of recipient site complications were low, with hematoma observed in 1.31% (95% CI: 0.50-3.34) and infection in 1.84% (95% CI: 0.95-3.53) of cases. The incidence of Frey's syndrome was 1.95% (95% CI: 0.74-5.02), and fat necrosis was noted in 1.74% (95% CI: 0.57-5.23) of patients. Donor site complications were minimal, with hematoma, infection, and seroma rates each below 1%. While there was high variability in satisfaction measures, results indicated favorable patient satisfaction with FDFG outcomes.CONCLUSIONFDFG reconstruction following parotidectomy is a safe and effective method for correcting contour deformities, showing minimal complications and high patient satisfaction. The low incidence of complications, including Frey's syndrome, underscores FDFG as a viable option for facial contour restoration in parotid surgery, providing favorable aesthetic and functional outcomes.

Use of the SMAS Flap in Benign Parotid Gland Surgery: Review and 5 Years Experience

IntroductionSuperficial parotidectomy is considered the gold standard for the treatment of the benign lesions of the parotid gland. However, the procedure is burdened by various complications such as sialocele, facial palsy, salivary fistula, and Frey's syndrome. The SMAS flap is widely used in plastic surgery for the face-lifting procedure. This surgical technique allows to obtain, in comparison with the traditional technique, a better redistribution of the tension forces during the traction of the skin. Rarely the SMAS flap is used for the surgical approach to the parotid gland which is, generally, directly approached.Materials and MethodsAfter a brief description of the SMAS anatomy and a short review of the SMAS flap procedure, we propose our experience about the use of the SMAS flap in the parotid gland surgery. We describe the details of the technical procedure through an explicative clinical case of a 73-year-old woman with pleomorphic adenoma of the left parotid gland. The description is attended by the images of all the surgical phases.ConclusionsThe procedure we propose presents a lower risk of complications and better aesthetic outcomes in comparison to the traditional approach to the parotid gland.

Lipoma of Deep Lobe of Parotid: Challenges in Diagnosis and Management

Lipoma is a common benign neoplasm of adipose tissue but has a very rare occurrence in the parotid gland, and there are only a few case reports in the English literature with lipomas arising from the deep lobe of the parotid gland. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) neck may mislead you in management with surprise on the OT as in our case. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) neck is the investigation to be done in all cases. Here we report a patient presented with a painless progressive swelling in the left parotid region for 6 months and has undergone superficial parotidectomy and enucleation of deep lobe lipoma with temporary facial nerve palsy which improved with no signs of Frey's syndrome in the follow up visit after 6 months.
