Reaction of 5-amino-6-mercaptopyrimidines with di-Et bromomalonate gave Et 6-oxopyrimido[4,5-b][1,4]thiazine-7-carboxylates (I and II), which were converted to derivatives (amides, hydrazides, and, from the latter, urethanes).Desulfurization of the 6-oxopyrimidothiazine-7-carboxylic acid esters gave N-(pyrimidin-5-yl)monoamides of Et malonate.

Title esters of 1-alkyl(1,2-dialkyl)-4-nitro-5-imidazolylmalonic, -acetoacetic, and -cyanoacetic acids were prepared by treating 5-chloro(bromo)-1-alkyl(1,2-dialkyl)-4-nitroimidazoles with Et esters of carboxylic acids indicated.Some conversions of the compounds obtained have been studied, including ketone and acid decomposition, synthesis of derivatives at the CO₂H and CO groups, and hydrogenation to 4-aminoimidazole derivatives
