A capillary gas chromatog. method for the determination of five residual solvents (methanol, ethanol, acetonitrile, THF, Et acetoacetate) in edaravone was established. Residual solvents in edaravone were determined by direct injection on a Thermo TG-624 elastic quartz capillary column with a FID detector. The carrier gas was nitrogen gas with the rate of 3.0 mL·min-1. The column temperature program was as follow: the initial temperature was set at 50 degrees, holding for 2 min, and then the temperature was increased to 180 degrees with the increase rate of 10 degrees·min-1, maintaining for 5 min. The injector temperature was 200 degrees and the detector temperature was 210 degrees. The residual solvents were detected by split injection. The contents of residual solvents were calculated by internal standard method. The calibration curves of five residual organic solvents showed good linearity and specific. The RSD of precision were all less than 1.6% and the average recoveries were 99.5%-100.7%. The method is simple, accurate and sensitive, and can be used for detection of the five residual solvents in edaravone.
