Recent advancement in DNA sequencing technol. and bioinformatics revealed that human skin is colonized by more than 100 species of bacteria and bacteria composition varies from persons to person. To understand how skin microbiota affects health and beauty of the host s skin, we conducted large-scale 16S rRNA anal. of Japanese female facial skin microbiome. The obtained data has successfully captured the core structure as well as individual diversity of human skin microbiome. The data also unveiled links between microbiome composition and skin conditions, including pimples, oily skin, enlarged pores, spot and dullness. We thus suggest that microbiome research would offer new tools to diagnose skin condition and to maintain healthy and beautiful skin.
