Overview

AbstractThe title compound forms two kinds of crystals, depending on conditions of crystallisation. Both crystal modifications of the title compound were investigated by X-ray structure analysis and non-valence interactions calculations. It is found that the ‘fast non-equilibrium crystallised’ modification (I) contains planar molecules consistent with the conformation found in the solution, whereas ‘slow equilibrium crystallisation’ leads to the formation of a less close-packed but more thermodynamically favoured modification (II) comprised with non-planar molecules.

A new method for the synthesis of 3-(1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)coumarins, e.g., I, is proposed.It is based on the recyclization of 2-(N-aroylhydrazono)coumarin-3-carboxamides, which are readily obtained by the reaction of 2-iminocoumarin-3-carboxamides with arenecarboxylic hydrazides in an acidic medium.Advantages of the given method over alternative synthetic schemes are shown.Proposals on the mechanism of reaction are made.

Simple one-pot four-step syntheses of 3-cyano-4-[2-(trifluoromethyl)phenylamino]- and 3-(4-oxo-3H-quinazolin-2-yl)-4-hydroxyquinolin-2(1H)-ones, compounds of biol. importance, from com. available starting materials were reported.The products were obtained in moderate yields by three-component reactions of 2 equiv of 2-aminobenzotrifluoride or 2 equiv of anthranilate with Et cyanoacetate.
