Aidoc has received FDA clearance for a computer-aided rib fracture triage offering (CADt AI) powered by a foundation model. CADt AI is image processing prescription software designed to aid in prioritization and triage of radiological medical images. The FDA clearance relates to Aidoc's Rib Fractures triage tool, which the company describes as a new version built on its CARE1 Foundation Model (Clinical AI Reasoning Engine, Version 1). According to the company, the CARE1 Foundation Model is different from traditional AI models designed for single-use cases as it is built for scalability, which allows Aidoc to develop and refine AI solutions at a faster pace while ensuring greater clinical strength. Aidoc's foundation model research is backed by a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS provides investment to enhance Aidoc's aiOS platform and the CARE Foundation Model technology, delivered together with AI modules by additional vendors. In a statement, Aidoc said it is working on the next version of the foundation model, CARE2, that it plans to release in the upcoming months. Built on the company's proprietary aiOS, Aidoc analyzes and aggregates medical data in order to allow care teams to "operationalize the unexpected and work seamlessly." "A year ago, what we're seeing today seemed impossible. Now, it's happening faster than anyone expected," Michael Braginsky, chief technology officer of Aidoc, said in a statement. "Every major organization will soon have to decide: build a foundation model or leverage one. As this shift accelerates, the real differentiator will be accuracy. Only the most accurate models will drive real impact." THE LARGER TREND In 2023, Aidoc secured $30 million in funding and developed a comprehensive AI imaging model and a new category of products based on that model. A year before, Aidoc scored $110 million in Series D funding to expand its AI-powered imaging platform, a year after it garnered $66 million in Series C funding. That same year, the company partnered with Singaporean startup Us2.ai with the aim of integrating its algorithm for analyzing echocardiograms into Aidoc's platform. Aidoc also collaborated with Gleamer to integrate its BoneView tool for X-rays into Aidoc's platform. Aidoc scored FDA 510(k) clearance in 2022 for its AI software aimed at finding and triaging potential brain aneurysms in CT scans. According to the FDA's database, the agency gave the green light on the tool around the same time in March as it did Aidoc's algorithm for flagging pneumothorax, or a collapsed lung, on X-rays.

The commercial partnership will integrate Pixyl’s Pixyl.Neuro brain MRI analysis software with Blackford’s enterprise AI platform. It is expected to provide healthcare providers with more powerful solutions to aid the detection and monitoring of neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases on MRI. Pixyl is a medical technology firm focused on AI-driven MRI solutions. Its Pixyl.Neuro algorithm is a next-generation AI software for brain MRI assessment. Blackford’s platform solution offers medical practitioners access to a range of over 120 AI solutions. The offerings are intended to enhance patient outcomes and improve clinical accuracy and efficiency. In clinical trials and standard clinical practice, the software enables better understanding and decision-making, Blackford said. Pixyl.Neuro is claimed to have shown improved detection rates of up to 28%, quicker MRI reading times, and facilitates early differential diagnosis with minimal MRI protocols and findings in minutes. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared the solution under class II (510(k)) in November last year. The European Union has granted CE-mark class IIa certification under the new Medical Device Regulations.
