A Clinical Study to Assess the Effects of JoyRise Recovery Powder on Mitigating Alcohol Aftereffects.

This study assesses the effectiveness of JoyRise Recovery Powder in reducing alcohol aftereffects, cognitive impairment, and anxiousness among participants aged 35-54 who consume alcohol. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the JoyRise group or a placebo group. The study will measure hangover symptoms, cognitive function, and overall well-being through a series of questionnaires and cognitive tests at baseline, 30 minutes after product consumption, and 4 hours later.

An Open-label, Randomized, Cross-over, Comparative Study of ALCOFILTRUM Dietary Food Supplement for Alleviating Alcohol Hangover Symptoms in Healthy Volunteers

The aim of this open-label, randomized, crossover, comparative pilot study is to assess efficacy and safety of the dietary food supplement ALCOFILTRUM in healthy volunteers who consume alcohol. Specifically the study will evaluate:
Efficacy of the intervention to alleviate hangover symptoms in participants who consumed alcohol,
Safety of intervention in participants who consuming alcohol.
Participants will take four tablets of ALCOFILTRUM dietary food supplement 30 minutes before alcohol ingestion, while the control group will intake only alcohol drink.

Alcohol hangover versus dehydration revisited: The effect of drinking water to prevent or alleviate the alcohol hangover

The alcohol hangover is a combination of negative mental and physical symptoms which can be experienced after a single episode of alcohol consumption, starting when blood alcohol concentration (BAC) approaches zero. A popular theory suggests that dehydration is the primary cause of alcohol hangover and that the consumption of water could alleviate hangover symptoms. Here, the current evidence on the relationship between hangover severity, thirst, and water consumption is summarized. The positive correlations of the amount of water consumed with both hangover severity and thirst suggest that both dehydration and the hangover are co-occurring after-effects of alcohol consumption. While hangovers were typically relatively enduring, dehydration effects were usually mild and short-lasting. Survey data revealed that water consumption during or directly after alcohol consumption had only a modest effect in preventing next-day hangover. Also, the amount of water consumed during hangover was not related to changes of hangover severity and thirst. Thus, water consumption was not effective to alleviate the alcohol hangover. Taken together, these data suggests that alcohol hangover and dehydration are two co-occurring but independent consequences of alcohol consumption.

Physical activity as a moderator of the association between alcohol consumption and hangovers

Frequently mentioned anecdotally, hangovers are under-investigated within the scientific study of alcohol, as is the role of physical activity (PA) on hangovers. The well-established positive association between PA and AC (AC) suggests that PA may buffer negative physiological consequences of AC, including hangovers. The present study was therefore conducted in order to determine whether PA influences hangovers. Undergraduates (N=1676) from two large universities in the United States who experienced at least one hangover in the past three months and who engaged in at least 30 min of moderate PA per week were recruited to participate. Participants completed online questionnaires about their AC, PA, and frequency and severity of hangover symptoms. Both between- and within-person associations between AC and hangover were examined, factoring in the potential moderating effects of both moderate and vigorous PA. Small effects were observed for correlations between PA and outcomes assessing AC and hangovers (rs ranged from 0.09 to 0.15). Results also revealed that individuals who consumed more alcohol per month experienced hangovers more frequently and had more severe symptoms. These associations were attenuated among individuals who spent more hours engaging in vigorous but not moderate PA. The current study is the first to show PA influences the experience of hangovers, and we posit this may be a mechanism underlying the positive relationship between PA and AC. Our findings advance the growing literature on alcohol use and PA and may contribute to the development of interventions for alcohol-related problems and alcohol use disorders.

Performance on a relational integration task is impaired during hangover

Recently, researchers have proposed an updated model of executive functions that includes relational integration, the mental ability to bind information into more complex structures. Hangover is known to disrupt other core components of executive functions, but little is known about how it influences relational integration. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate how hangover influences performance on a relational integration task. Twenty-seven participants completed an online relational integration task and mood- and emotion-regulation questionnaires during a hangover and no-hangover condition in this naturalistic design study. Results indicated that relational integration was impaired in hangover (p < 0.001, η_p² = 0.562) relative to the no-hangover condition. In addition, participants experienced greater difficulties in regulating emotions (p < 0.001, d = 0.85) and lower mood (p < 0.001, d = 0.88) during hangover. These results suggest that relational integration is impaired in hangover and add weight to the argument that cognitive impairments in hangover may be due to the hangover-related impact on domain-general processing resources.
