Magnesium citrate is available under the trade names Magcorol and Tectlol. The drug is manufactured by RMJ Holdings and was first approved in Japan on April 28, 1973. Magnesium citrate works by attracting water to the intestine and promoting bowel movement, thus clearing the intestinal tract. It is commonly used for bowel preparation prior to colonoscopy or other medical procedures requiring a clear intestinal tract. Magnesium citrate is available over-the-counter as a liquid or tablet form,also used in the pill form as a magnesium dietary supplement.
